Origin of Chromosomal Translocations in Lymphoid Cancer
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aberrant fusions between heterologous chromosomes are among the most prevalent cytogenetic abnormalities found in cancer cells. Oncogenic chromosomal translocations provide cells with a proliferative or survival advantage. They may either initiate transformation or be acquired secondarily as a result of genomic instability. Here, we highlight recent advances toward understanding the origin of chromosomal translocations in incipient lymphoid cancers and how tumor-suppressive pathways normally limit the frequency of these aberrant recombination events. Deciphering the mechanisms that mediate chromosomal fusions will open new avenues for developing therapeutic strategies aimed at eliminating lesions that lead to the initiation, maintenance, and progression of cancer.

Balanced Chromosomal Translocations of Parents in Relation to Spontaneous Abortions
The most significant complication of pregnancy is recurrent miscarriage. Numerous factors have been described as associations with recurrent wastage such as: uterine abnormalities, immunological factors, endocrinologic imbalance and chromosomal defects. Cytogenetic evaluation of couples with recurrent pregnancy losses is performed on the basis of G-banding technique only after other possible et...
متن کاملBrief Definitive Report CHROMOSOMAL TRANSLOCATION INVOLVING THE a T CELL RECEPTOR GENE IN ACUTE LEUKEMIA
Chromosomal translocations are implicated as important pathogenetic events in many human malignancies (1) . For tumors of B-lymphoid origin, the Ig genes are frequent sites of chromosomal translocations, most commonly resulting in juxtaposition of Ig genes with the c-myc or bcl-2 genes (2) . In rare T cell cancers, the TCR-a gene may be translocated into close proximity of the c-myc protooncoge...
متن کاملChromosomal Analysis of Couples with Repeated Spontaneous Abortions in Northeastern Iran
Background Cytogenetic study of reproductive wastage is an important aspect in determining the genetic background of early embryogenesis. Approximately 15 to 20% of all pregnancies in humans are terminated as recurrent spontaneous abortions (RSAs). The aim of this study was to detect chromosome abnormalities in couples with RSAs and to compare our results with those reported previously. Materia...
متن کاملA Backup DNA Repair Pathway Moves to the Forefront
Chromosomal translocations between antigen receptor loci and oncogenes are a hallmark of lymphoid cancers. Several new studies now reveal that programmed DNA breaks created during assembly of antigen receptor genes can be channeled into an alternative DNA end-joining pathway that is implicated in the chromosomal translocations of lymphoid cancers (Corneo et al., 2007; Soulas-Sprauel et al., 200...
